Something all Sylius enthusiasts have been waiting for… Ladies and Gentlemen, Sylius 2.0 has officially been released! 🙌

Before we get down to specifics and present version 2.0, let’s go back to the beginning for a moment. Sylius is a project that we have actively supported as a leading business partner for many years. BitBag was the first company in the world to grow out of Sylius and continues to successfully implement projects based on it. Over the years, together with other partners, we have witnessed and also been a part of Sylius’ development. Together, we have created almost 500 plugins downloaded millions of times, built hundreds of eCommerce platforms, participated in numerous conferences and meetups promoting Sylius, and gathered a community of over 7,000, which is still growing! We are glad that BitBag can contribute significantly to Sylius’s development.

Returning to 2.0 – from the very beginning, we witnessed this long, full of intensive work, but at the same time, inspiring process that was creating a fresh version of Sylius 2.0. The last 18 months were quite a challenge for the entire Sylius Team, which we can immodestly say 😉, they coped with it and did it nicely! 👏

The culmination of their work was the announcement of the stable version of Sylius 2.0 at SyliusCon, which took place on November 13 in Lyon, France. SyliusCon was the perfect opportunity to announce it to the Sylius community, which gathered in such large numbers at the conference.

Now, let’s get down to specifics and discuss what’s new in 2.0.

New functionalities in Sylius 2.0

The aim of creating a new version was to improve it in several areas. The activities were focused on creating a new interface, introducing a new payment processing system, facilitating the work of developers, and providing even greater support for integration, extensions, and expansion of the platform.

  • New Admin and Shop UI: Both the administrative and frontend interfaces have been completely redesigned using Bootstrap. This brings a modern look and greater flexibility, enabling a more intuitive experience and easier user interface customization.
  • Full API Platform 4 Support: The API now fully supports API Platform 4, which significantly stabilizes integrations and expands possibilities. The new version provides robust functions to handle more complex requirements, offering flexibility and ease in extending Sylius.
  • Symfony 7 and Symfony UX Compatibility: This release is fully compatible with Symfony 7, allowing developers to leverage the latest framework features and optimizations. Additionally, support for Symfony UX, including UX icons, equips developers with tools for improved user interaction and broader possibilities for application expansion.
  • New Payment Processing System: Introducing Payment Requests, a new approach that replaces the previous Payum integration. This system offers more efficient and stable connections with payment providers, simplifying the integration process and enabling better support for direct payments.
  • Prioritized Twig Hooks: New prioritization options in Twig Hooks allow for better management of customization orders. This feature is especially useful for complex projects requiring integrations from multiple sources, such as external plugins and systems.
  • Code Optimization and Stabilization: The codebase has undergone numerous improvements, including hundreds of enhancements to stability, performance, and consistency. These optimizations have refined the code, making the platform more responsive, efficient, and ready for expansion.
